family tree: A graphical way of showing the relationships within a family, including great grandparents (to the oldest ancestor), grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.

A tree, as exemplified by a family tree, is also useful to represent the relationships of things within a computer which are hierarchical in nature. (Like the filesystem hierarchy.)
