dump: Dump is a backup program, part of the dump/*restore* suite, and it appears to be sort of a standard for Linux. (Contrast to core dump.) I've never used dump, but just read some of the man page -- there are quite a few options -- it looks fairly full featured with the ability to do various incremental back ups.

Aside: I plan to do my initial backups (in Linux) using tar and gz, and then rsync for things like backing up Wikilearn content to/from Sourceforge.
