  • President Nixon imposes a 90-day freeze on wages & prices to combat inflation.

  • Boomers can now vote in federal elections as the voting age is lowered from 21 to 18.

  • A bloody riot at Attica prison in New York kills 43.

  • "Jesus Christ Superstar" opens on Broadway.

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates win the World Series.

  • Cigarette advertising is now banned on television and radio.

  • Disney World opens outside of Orlando, Florida.

  • The Academy award for Best Picture goes to "The French Connection."
