A list of the cdrom disks that I use to test cd drives for "media sensitivity":

  • noname silver/silver (the ones I bought -- no longer have any other identifying information -- probably bought at Best Buy -- these have worked for me in most drives, including audio players -- now finding some problems, probably with older drives as LVCFK finds them)
  • Memorex black/black
  • Memorex silver/silver)
  • Nashua silver/silver
  • PNY silver/silver
  • Ricoh gold/blue

Note: In general, I am just testing to see if the media is readable or not, but I found that the noname silver/silver media is readable in some machines where it is not bootable. On those machines, reading seems to be significantly below the rated speed. I suspect that the boot process times out while waiting for the media to be read.
