Boot Sector:

The portion of a hard disk that is reserved for the self-starting portion of an operating system. Typically this portion of the disk contains a short program to load the operating system.

The MBR (Master Boot Record) is stored in the first sector of a hard disk. Is a boot sector the first sector of a bootable partition?
