Question
In earlier versions of TWiki it was possible to create a template for a specific topic overriding the master templated
and the web template. This feature seems to have been lost in the September 1, 2001 release. I would like to have the option to create
a special layout for a page, for example for
WebHome. Is there a
way to achieve this or would it be possible to restore the feature?
- TWiki version: September 1, 2001
- Web server: any
- Server OS: any
- Web browser: any
- Client OS: any

Answer
This has been removed after a request for comment. You get the functionality for creating new topics if you pass a
templatetopic paramter to the edit script. Currently it is not possible to do that for topic view. As a workaround you can create links to your topic with a skin, i.e.
[[%SCRIPTURL%/view%SCRIPTSUFFIX%/%MAINWEB%/%HOMETOPIC%?skin=homeskin][%HOMETOPIC%]]

That is not an adequate workaround. Especially for top-level pages
such as
WebHome, which are referenced from
outside the twiki. Was
there a good reason for removing the feature?
