Question

It would be helpful to have a "quick start" guide to customizing TWiki out-of-the-box. It was difficult to get running at first, but now that we have TWiki working, figuring out how to customize it seems a bit challenging - there are a alot of sparse documents around.

For example, it would be nice to have the default Webs handy, but in a different web, and to create a customized Main, and perhaps add some other Webs that might be relevant to the organization using TWiki.

As I understand, you have to manually run in and create webs from the shell prompt.

My point is that some of the docs fall a little short and don't go far enough, or the information that's needed is in too many different places.

When I create a new Web, it never shows up on the "TWiki Webs:" list on the page.

I imagine that it would be useful to follow the lead of other projects like phpBB where you have a simple web-based installation CGI whereupon you can configure everything needed and be up and running with a minimum amount of hassle. The install.sh script that is on the site is out of date, and appears not to be recommended.

That said, TWiki is very cool - some of these issues are just rough edges that could be ironed out with some effort.

Thanks.

Answer

Thanks Forrest for the good feedback. We are working on improving the out-of-box experience over time. Recent TWikiBetaReleases have a web based interface to create new webs etc.
