Question

Each time I edit a topic, some of the characters get changed.

For example the start tag for HTML ("<") get's converted to "<" and & is converted to "&". (You may have to edit this topic to see what I mean here as it shows both the same in view mode -- fixed, I think -- rhk)

Having the & sign change is no big deal, but having < change each time messes up the HTML formatting.

At first I thought it was my browser (Mozilla) but then I tried MS IE and the same thing happened. This made me begin to wonder WHERE my problem lay - in my computer system? Any suggestions appreciated as it's a real annoyance.

 • TWiki version: Doesn't matter - happens on both my TWiki site and TWiki.org
 • Perl version:
 • Web server & version:
 • Server OS:
 • Web browser & version: Latest versions of Mozilla and IE
 • Client OS: W2K

I did some format fixing to get your problem statement displayed properly in view, but, sorry, don't have any idea what is causing the problem. Sounds just the reverse of what usually happens -- you have to type a < in order to show a <.

Answer

Testing:

 • this is bold and italic using HTML tags, with Netscape 4.7 on Win XP.
 • this is bold and italic using HTML tags, with IE 6.0 on Win XP.

I cannot reproduce this here at TWiki.org. However, I can verify it at http://twiki.skyloom.com/bin/view.pl/Sandbox/TestTopic2. Lynnwood, did you do some customization of the 29 Dec 2003 Beta release? Any special plugins?

Peter - Thanks so much. I thought I had experienced this problem on twiki.org site but you've confirmed I was mistaken. To answer your question, no I haven't added any special plugins on my site. I was waiting for the new release and to solve the problem described in FormsBeingDeleted before adding anything else. At this point, it would seem the thing to do is to wait for the new full release and then see if these problems are still there.

Thanks again!

The problem cleared up after upgrading to the 01 Feb 2003 Twiki release.
