Question

Can TWIKI be configured for use for collaboration projects between two different companies such that personnel from both companies can equally and easily access and update information on a project page in TWIKI but does not compromise access or security behind each companies intranets/firewalls?

Well, that's more of a generic network security question than a TWiki question. I can answer from my experience; my recommendation would be to set up a VPN that can be used by both companies, but keep data strictly separated from either companies intranets. Avoid the risk of any accidental leakage completely.
