SID-02339: First Time Install of Wiki 6.0.1 using VM Linux

Category: CategoryInstallation Server OS: Last update: 21 minutes ago

I downloaded the 6.0.1 VM, and imported it into VirtualBox, started it, and changed the root password. I have virtual zero experience with UNIX/LINUX. I was able to set up port forwarding (8080 to 80), and when I use an external browser, I get prompted for User ID and Password. I've burned probably 30+ hours reading the installation instructions, and trying things, but am thoroughly stuck.

Am I correct that the VM has the proper Apache web server installed, the directory permissions set, and the rest of the PERL and CPAN packages applied and configured?

If so, other than the ethernet configuration (dhcp, I believe, is how I have it set), the rest is set, I should be ready to do the http://172.16.3.73:8080/do/configure to run the configruation.

It seems to me that I am missing starting the Apache server on the VM, and the pop-up asking for User ID and Password may not be browser-related.

Have I missed VM-specific installation instructions for idiots? If so, I'm glad to attempt to follow instructions. If not, I'd appreciate some clues on what to try next.

I'm running Windows 7 - 64 bit, the downloaded VM / Cent-OS / Apache server / etc. on the 6.0.1 virtual machine. My pc is on an intranet, behind a firewall, and I'm not trying to expose TWIKI to the public.

Oracle VirtualBox works just fine for the 6.0.1 VM, and YES, the Apache web server is installed and autostarts upon boot; the PERL, CPAN, etc. are all installed and functional.
  1. DO NOT USE port 8080 - Tomcat uses it, and the user id and password being prompted for is for Tomcat authentication - irrelevant to using TWIKI. If you use port 5000, and browse to http://localhost:5000, the TWIKI page appears like magic!

So... I guess that you've already solved your problem?

Anyway, here's a hint on configuration: If you use port forwarding with your VirtualBox host's IP address, then you need to add this IP-adress with its port 5000 to the configuration (value {PermittedRedirectHostUrls}) - or otherwise edit/save/view cycles will report a forbidden redirection. Edits will not get lost, though.
