I ported my Twiki, 5.1 site that was running on my Apache server at home to Dreamhost. I then followed the instructions that were provided by Dreamhost for Twiki 5.0 and also reviewed instructions by Richard Donkin for previous versions of Twiki for use on Dreamhost. I have issues that I can't figure out although I thought I had the solution many times. I run configure, fix the errors in the general path setting and then try to run twiki. I get the authentication widow requesting username and password. I put those in and I get the authentication window back again. If I hit cancel I get a message {ScriptURLPath} /view/TWiki/TwikiRegistration across the top of a page and nothing else. I also have 4 log errors in Configure that says it can't write to files like "debug.txt", "configurationlog.txt, etc. I can't figure out how to clear this because those files don't exist and when I create them with write permission I still get the same log errors. I didn't have these errors on running 5.0 on my Apache web site at home.

Discussion and Answer
Likely a permission issue. Make sure all files below your
twiki
directory are owned by the webserver user. Actually it is not necessary to have all owned by the webserver user, but at least those below
twiki/data
,
twiki/pub
and
twiki/working
, as well as
twiki/lib/Localsite.cfg
file.

Thanks for the help Peter. I now have eliminated all the errors in Configure. The path to the log files were incorrect in
LocalSite.cfg. The path needed my username from Dreamhost.
