My Apache server logs are constantly showing 404 errors when people try to grab non-existent favicon.ico file
s.
HTTPD Access log:
twiki.example.org 10.1.2.3 - - [22/Jun/2009:10:24:38 -0700] "GET /twiki/pub/Project/WebPreferences/favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 404 238 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"
HTTPD Error log:
[Thu Jun 25 10:41:00 2009] [error] [client 10.10.10.13] File does not exist: /var/www/twiki/pub/Project/WebPreferences
The directory 'WebPreferences' does not exist:
twiki.example.org % ls -ld /var/www/twiki/pub/Project/WebPreferences
ls: /var/www/twiki/pub/Project/WebPreferences: No such file or directory
I don't think I want these Webs to have their own preferences, and I don't want these Webs to have their own
WebPreferences. I'd like the Project Web to inherit the site-level preferences.
How can I stop TWiki from trying to serve
WebPreferences/favicon.ico all the time?

Discussion and Answer
I found out how to fix this.
In the page
TWikiPreferences , I set the FAVICON setting to simply use favicon.ico for the Main page, like this:
-
- Set FAVICON = %PUBURLPATH%/Main/%WEBPREFSTOPIC%/favicon.ico
