Question

Hello

Why is the following setting for {RCS}{useSubDir} not recommended ? as suggested in bin/configure

EXPERT
Set this if you want to use RCS subdirectories instead of storing ,v files alongside the topics. Not recommended.

{RCS}{useSubDir}

Given that large directories could be problematic it would seem that using them would be a good idea.

There are a number of known bugs. In today's release meeting we discussed to remove that feature because hardly anyone uses this configuration, and we do not have a committed developers to fix the issues.

It might be better to tune the file system for better performance, see http://ygingras.net/b/2007/12/too-many-files%3A-reiser-fs-vs-hashed-paths
