Question
I see in
HowToDisableTheEditButton the recipe to hide the Edit button. But in the current Pattern skin in 4.1.2, this seems no longer necessary, as the button doesn't appear in the topic actions bar at the top of the page.
It does appear in the bottom bar, but I would like to put it back at the top of the page as well. Given the latest version of Pattern, how does one do this?

Answer
If you answer a question - or have a question you asked answered by someone - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status is in a drop-down list below the edit box.
It ought to be there, so this looks like some skin/configuration issue on your installation.

Possibly. But the only customization I've done is to add templates that "include" Pattern and add a "Publish" button (please see attached), and another set of templates for published HTML pages to strip out any topic actions entirely. I'm not sure what I've done that might cause one button to go missing?

What do you see if you append
?skin=pattern to the url?

The
Edit button!

So you are right, of course: this is a customization issue somehow. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this and figure out why the button isn't appearing?

It would seem you have overwritten
viewtoolbar.pattern.tmpl or the DEF
%TMPL:DEF{toolbar_buttons}% inside it.

I agree: it would ... but I haven't! The file is untouched and is the latest from the TWiki 4.1.2 install archive. I verified that the "edit" button template (or what looks to be the edit template) is the same on the file system as that in a freshly downloaded file ("=activatable_edit_or_create=" ... I tried to include the actual code here but couldn't keep TWiki from rendering it as a button).
Is there some chance that this definition is somehow in conflict with my custom template (attached)?
