Question
When creating a new topic I am getting a
corrupt page asking me to register as a new user,
starting like that:

and then the edit mask is visible.
My question is not so much what the reason for this strange behaviour is
(might be hard to tell from remote) but rather how I can debug this problem myself.
How can I find out what "edit" does, what templates are called etc.
Is there a debug mode ? Where can I find logfiles
(apart from $TWIKIHOME/data/logyyyymm.txt and /var/log/apache/* ) ?
I did uncomment the two debug statements in 'edit', but I didnt see any additional logs anywhere.
I am using the gnu skin.

Answer
The
SupportGuidelines and
TWikiDebugging are your friends

... I'm genuinely curious as to how the
SupportGuidelines could be any more prominent on
Support.WebHome - suggestions welcome.

Yes,
TWikiDebugging was my friend, thanks a lot.
Here is why I didnt find it:
I was first searching for information on how to debug twiki problems. Naturally I
was looking on the Support
WebHome. I checked
AnsweredQuestions,
TWikiDocumentation,
TWikiFAQ. It was all not what I was looking for.
I also saw
SupportGuidelines. To me this appeared to be a manual how to ask a support
question, not how to debug a TWiki Problem.
So what I did is read it up to the point when I thought I was ready to ask my question.
I did overlook the one and only
TWikiDebugging link on that page. I dont think
it is very prominent there, and also I wasnt expecting it there.
To my brain, the
TWikiDebugging link should also appear on the Support Webhome Page.
Hope that was helpful, Richard

Thanks for responding - you are clearly too expert for the
SupportGuidelines page, which does only have passing references to
TWikiDebugging anyway. However, the Support web is mainly for people who won't get into debugging anyway, so I'm not sure it should be linked from
WebHome. I'll make the link on
SupportGuidelines more prominent.
