Question

I have created several groups, and have managed to lock down access to webs based on those groups, but the groups do not show up in the group list.

Every now and then I will be able to create a group that will show up in the group list but it doesn't seem to be based on any sort of pattern.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease04x00x04
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: RHEL4, 2.6.9-22.EL
Web server: Apache/2.0.52
Perl version: 5.8.5
Client OS: Windows XP SP2
Web Browser: Firefox 1.5.0.4
Categories: Security, Missing functionality

Not sure why. TWiki 4's Main.TWikiGroups has a %GROUPS% variable that gets expanded to the list of groups.

As a temporary workaround you could use a SEARCH instead (as here on TWiki.org) :

%SEARCH{"Set GROUP" topic="*Group" casesensitive="on" nosummary="on" nosearch="on" noheader="on" nototal="on" format="   * $topic$n      * <font size=\"-1\">Members: $pattern(.*   \* Set GROUP =([^\n]*).*)</font>"}%

please note that the %GROUPS% value shown is what TWiki thinks is the list of groups. Can you tell us more? Like specific Group names, what the topic text is on one that does not work etc?

I had made a group called ItDepartment. That didn't work. I made one called TechDepartment. That didn't work either. I made one using the default name that shows up in the box when you create a group - that worked. I deleted it, then tried to re-make it. It didn't work.

Note that this was with a fresh install of Twiki with no additional plugins/customizations installed.

Ah, TWiki groups topic names must end in Group, e.g. call your IT department: ItDepartmentGroup.

I just create group named TWikiPrivateGroup (via form on TWikiGroups page), but group is not shown in the groups list frown

How can I fix it?

URL is broken. The process for creating groups is well documented, and further above. Closing answered.

I am experiencing the same problems, creating valid groups (ie; ITDepartmentGroup) and it does not show up as a group. Occasionally a group does, but with no apparent reason.

This has been resolved. The problem was using a LDAP plugin with Microsoft Exchange caused conflicts between security groups in AD that were configured for wiki usage and Twiki groups.

I have tried both the search workaround as well as ensured that all my groups end with Groups (DevGroup, TWikiTestGroup, etc) but nothing is showing up in the groups list or in the search list. This is becoming a hassle for myself and I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas to contribute?

Oh, and as a followup note, it is a nearly standard installation on a Windows environment with the correct PERL version installed along with Cygwin

-- DeanPearce - 2009-09-09

Likely cause: Non-GNU versions of fgrep and egrep, or path issue (space in path?)
