Question

I am trying to configure GoogleAjaxSearch plugin. But despite following instructions, the plugin only returns Sponsored Links and does not return any results from our own Web.

I also do not understand what is the use of the %GOOGLEAJAXSEARCH% variable. Please also tell me something about the %BROADCASTMESSAGE% variable usage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

If you get a search box, and no alert pop-up complaining about an invalid key, your search is working. But it might be that the Google index bots haven't picked up your site.

  • GOOGLEAJAXSEARCH is a variable defined by the plugin. When you have that in a topic the plugin will write the necessary javascript to the generated html.
  • BROADCASTMESSAGE is a variable defined in TWiki.TWikiPreferences (for site-wide messages) and can be customized in WebPreferences (for web-only messages). Best practice is to write all your custom site-wide messages in Main.TWikiPreferences.
  • BROADCASTMESSAGE can be misused to put the Google search box in.

Thanks for your quick response. I am experiencing another issue. I am using the Tagging plugin as well. I have placed all the settings in the TWikiPreferences and normally the search is bringing sponsored links. But when I create a new tag, popup says "Ajax Search API load failure. Invalid key supplied". Is this a configuration conflict. Because without creating the tag, the search does not give popup?

My guess is this happens because adding a tag happens in a different web (TWiki by default). And that you have a Google key for one web (twiki/bin/view/MyWeb), not for the site root (twiki/bin/view). Try with a new key.

Oh, I should have said when I select a tag from the combo and add it to the topic that is when after setting the tag, the message pops up. How long can it take for the google bots to index our site? or is there something I can do to expidite it? Also if I may request you to plz have a look at the link: "http://twiki.xavor.com/bin/view/Xavor/XavorValuedNetwork" and tell me if I am going wrong somewhere. It would be a big favor. Thanks
