Why did gnuskin get rid of the go button? I like typing in a wikiword and then going directly to it or having the option to create it. How do I get back the go button with gnuskin? -- MattVargas - 14 Jan 2003

Answer

It was a design choice that made me remove the whole top line of the default skin. The desire was to reduce the "impact" of the TWiki interface and create a subset of the existing functionality. At first I was not even sure if I should keep the search field, but in the end, the main reason I kept the search field while leaving out the Go field was that the location field of the browser had almost the same functionality.

If you want to get the Go field back you can implement a working GoIsSearch or similar and send me a patch for the GnuSkin.

Before I saw your answer I discovered how to add a go button and I have done it. The patch is attached. It's not pretty but at least I have the go button. I thought it would be better to add it in the side bar, but it appears that there is no way to put a form in the side bar. I agree that the search button alone is a good design choice. After all I can type in the WikiWord in the url bar.

Excellent, thanks Matt!

My pleasure, Grant! BTW I'm trying to get the ball rolling at work. I think TWiki is superior to mailing lists or newsgroups for sharing information. I hope you noticed I didn't implement a working GoIsSearch I just added another field next to search that says "go".
