Question

I'm in the process of installing TWiki on a hosted web server. Every time I go to the site, I never get asked to log in. Twiki then believes I'm TWikiGuest. What do I need to set up in order for TWiki to ask me to log in.

ps. When I registered I wasn't asked to input a password, so I won't have one when and if I do figure out how to log in.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease01Feb2003
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: Linux
Web server: Apache 1.3.29
Perl version: 5.8.1
Client OS: Winxp
Web Browser: Ie

Answer

Please follow the documented step in TWikiInstallationGuide#Enabling_Authentication_of_Users

Additional Question

According to the documentation you mention, I believe I need to configure the Apache server. On my hosted system, I'm not allowed to do this. Am I misunderstanding the instructions? The documentation you reference appears to suggest I need to perform some server redirection configuration.

Am I hosed with respect to setting up authentication on my hosted site?

Regards,

Chris Vogel

Most hosted servers are configured honour a .htaccess in the cgi-bin. Rename .htaccess.txt to .htaccess as documented.
