Question
Sorry this should be a very newbie question. I got apache2.2.4 running on my local machine (Win XP). Then I followed the instructions in
WindowsInstallCookbook. After I installed cygwin and BEFORE i started changing apache config apache won't start anymore. It just says that the operation failed. When trying to start as a service it says 'error code 1'.
I am quite new to this and I know I probaby should provide more info. Please help me with right questions

Answer
If you answer a question - or have a question you asked answered by someone - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status is in a drop-down list below the edit box.
Please, read the error in apache logs, this should help you.

for some reason it doesn't even add anything to the apache log file.

I'd recommend just installing
TWikiVMDebianStable, you will be running in 5 mins once you've downloaded it.
WindowsInstallCookbook (which I wrote most of) is really quite out of date, and a very painful way to install TWiki on Windows. If the TWiki VM approach doesn't suit you (it takes some extra RAM), you could try the IndigoPerl cookbook that's listed under
TWikiOn. Or try
TWikiForWindowsPersonal, which is very easy, almost no installation at all for a personal TWiki.

I updated the notes on top of
WindowsInstallCookbook accordingly.

Thanks everyone for your response. The problem turned out to be related to Windows/Apache than the other components of twiki environment. Reinstalling apache cleared the probem altogether.
As for the
WindowsInstallCookbook, yes, it IS outdated. Imagine my shock when just couldn't find the twiki.cfg file

Yet (and I am very proud of it) I did manage to complete my installation and get wiki up and running!!
TWiki:Codev.WindowsInstallCookbookComments were very helpful in particular plus some natural ingenuity

(you should remember I vaguely can tell the difference between chmod and chown).
The reason I spent this effort and not reverted to a Personal edition is that I am going to pursuade our IT guys to help us with our grass-roots wiki project and before asking them for help I had to understand what I will really need from them.
Again thanks for your time
