Who's answering who?

I thought it would be cool to capture some statistics on who is following up to who. Something like scanning for signatures and assuming that the person who replies is replying directly to the person (or all people) above. I'd use GraphViz to represent the output to this.

Then doing a time-based study to gather on which topics the interactions are taking place, and then to visualise this somehow, maybe using a scattergraph.

a couple of months back there was an article about some IBM research were they were analysing topic change histories (of a bug wiki) and displaying that as a graph.. i think i've lost the link, but when i go home i'll see if i can dig it up.

damned interesting stuff though.
