FirefoxTWikiSearchBoxAddOn

this is a Firefox search box extension. It enables you to search TWiki directly from the search box

How to use it

• The search will search through all public webs.
• The search is a regular expression search.
• If it doesn't find anything, it will take you to TWiki's Advanced Search page. (Even if it does find something, it still takes you to that page, but it is less obvious, because you're paying attention to the results)

Installation instructions

under Vista you need special rights to copy files into the "Program Files" folder. This can be done by starting the 'cmd' as Administrator and copy the files from an unprotected directory.

Installation Instructions for Firefox 2 and 3

1. store TWiki.xml to your firefox searchplugins directory (e.g. C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\TWiki.xml)
2. restart firefox

Installation Instructions for Firefox 1.5

1. unzip or untar (you might need to gunzip on hp-ux, but linux supports tar -zxf for compressed tar files) the appropriate file into your searchplugins directory.
   • On linux/hp-ux systems, this is in a directory somewhere around where firefox or its libraries are installed. (Sorry, but it depends on how Firefox was installed):
     • On my linux system, the directory is /opt/firefox/searchplugins, because that's where I installed firefox.
     • On TheShire, it is under /usr/lib/firefox-1.x.y/searchplugins, where x and y are the current revision of Firefox. This is probably more typical.
   • On a MS Windows system, it is under C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins
2. As "shipped", the searchplugin will search twiki.org. You can modify TWiki.src to search your TWiki site: Just put your URL in the action line.
3. The TWiki.gif file is just pub/TWiki/TWikiLogos/T-logo-16x16-t.gif renamed and packaged for ease of installation.
4. Restart Firefox.
5. The pulldown on the search window should now have a selection with the TWiki logo, and the description "TWiki.org", unless you changed it.

this method seems still to work on Firefox 2 and 3 for backward compatibility, but the xml file should be used instead!
