Market for learning management systems:
The total market for learning management software systems, custom-developed online training materials, e-learning-related services and electronic courses found in catalogs is about $13 billion annually, according to Bersin & Associates. The firm predicts it will grow 8 percent to 12 percent this year.
NIIT services include instructor-led and online learning, custom content development and outsourcing.
Take a look at the below 2 sites:
http://coderun.com/
http://ideone.com/
What should the landing page contain?
How soon the user logs into the system?
The users of this system in the institute:
1. Admin person
Enrolls student
Accepts fees (support credit card as well as cash)
student gets a login id and password after the enrollment.
Assigns the students to the scheduled course
Admin also creates the professor logins
maps the professor to the courses (needs a simple UI for this).
Schedules session
2. Professor
Creates/customizes the content
Intersperses right examples (the yellow bulb is an example)
Creates Test/quiz (pencil) for the course (sets the time, number of questions, the correct answers).
Creates an exercise (a mini project) and assigns it to the student.
Reviews the exercises and grades it.
Schedules video sessions (
DimDim) for advanced topics.
Can create diagrams and share them as well with the students (with online diagram maker).
Professor can create screen recordings to share with the students.
3. Student
When he logs in, he sees his courses and the % completed. He starts the course (which has so many units and sets the unit as completed one by one). In this process he goes through lessons, examples and tests (timer driven). Finally he also submits the project that was assigned to him by the professor. The student would like to see how many courses he has taken, how much time spent in the course, % complete, marks in the test, gradation/comments for the project. He would also prefer the professor teaching few things over a video session.
The class chitchats using the chatroom.
Components: Online IDE, evaluation platform.
Possibilities:
1. Institutes and Companies use the platform, we provide the default content.
2. Virtual Institute (we host the content and make it open to all)
3. Distant Learning Institute: For something like Aptech, provide them the platform that enables distant learning. Content can be theirs. Something similar to NIIT+ElemntK's training.com. they just provide videos, there is no online IDE.
4. Approach to publishers - tiny URL mentioned in hardcopies of books, ebooks contain the examples and they can be executed there itself using the IDE.
5.Marketplace - Anybody can create their courses and train the world.
6.Evaluation platform for job portals like naukri.
7. Ad based web IDE
8. Hosting contests.
9. Knowledge base for the companies.
10. Mobile phone: English learning via sms's, Greetings services
11. Advertise Channel.
12. Infrastructure as a service for SMB's
Features explored:
DimDim for the professor to schedule a session with a class.
Online diagram maker for creating charts. (gliffy)
Screen Recorder facility(Skoffer)
All this will help him create multimedia content making it more interesting for the student to learn.
Messages
Multimedia chatroom for the students to interact, will help with broadcasting.
Toggling of features through admin login.
