It would be cool if it was possible to share certain topics with outside partners/customers without giving them access to the rest of the Twiki.

This would require that it was possible to create one or more guest accounts. Per default a new guest account wouldn't have access to anything. They would have to be granted access to topics one at the time.

This might be cumbersome if you had to share a ton of topics, but I'm primarily proposing this to be able to share a relatively low number of topics per installation.

We would either need a central admin interface for setting up guest accounts privileges to certain topics, or be able to specify these rules on the topic in question.

Guests with access to a topic would view this through a special template stripped for links to other parts of the Twiki. If the guest tried to follow a link from the shared page to one that wasn't, he would get an error.

At present you do not need to logon to view a topic, to make the above work you would either have to get everyone to logon for all access or create a second site that pointed at the same data files, but got everyone to logon. Alternatively you could experiment with a reverse proxy that foward only desired requests to TWiki and if you wanted filtered out some links. I'm hoping to have some time soon to try something to restrict some users to a set of Webs.

Ahh, didn't think about that. Our installation requires up-front authentication, so here it wouldn't be a problem. Fooling with htaccess rules or what have you to do the rules would probably be too complex to be worth the trouble, but maybe I'll take a look at it anyway.
