In the release 20001201 - there is no URL for file specified in wiki.pm in the section for Handling Embedded URLs. If it is put in eg:

s@(^|[\-\*\s])((http|ftp|gopher|file|news|https)\:(\S+[^\s\.,!\?;:]))@&externalLink($1,$2)@geo;

Then smb file systems can be accessed - eg windows boxes shares.

This is a small enhancment that can be done easily. I change the classification to FeatureToDo since this is not a bug.
