Process used by many open source projects to handle priorities with regard to feature acceptance/denial.
  • Contributor puts forward code and/or feature description
  • Community members vote +1, 0, -1 on the feature
  • Decision gets taken to merge
    • Decision can either take votes as definitive or advisory

Doesn't always work. (like every process)

Feature voting can also be used to set bug severity, bug priority.

An alternative is to use a feature veto approach

mmm, and if we generalise it (to become a WebForm VoteField), then we can have a voting system like slashdot for DiscussionForumOverview which i am very impressed with.
