Minutes of Edinburgh Release Meeting, 14 Aug 2006

TOC and Agenda

Logistics, Participants, IRC log

1. Review Previous Action Items

  • Doc Team: Discuss if we also want to reduce content as proposed by Sven and supported by many in community ALERT! No progress
  • All: Add to "Wishlist" BenchmarkFramework - requirements and wishes - very few wishes added. Need more input!
  • Meredith: Create TWikiFn branch of TWiki4 with no other changes.
    • Kenneth: Benchmark the above with TWiki4 without TWikiFn. DONE Done. TWikiFn has little impact on performance. It seems a little slower on virgin site but faster when many topics and users.
  • All: Try Configure script in DEVELOP and provide feedback for Crawford.

2. Process to accept change proposals

  • Desired outcome: Define a process that is customer focused; is easy and quick to get new features accepted; is scalable (not too much workload on a single person); lets us stay focused on mission, quality and performance goals
  • Discuss alternatives to TWikiReleaseManagerRole
  • Proposal: TWikiRelease04x01Process

3. Review proposed items

  • Desired outcome: Give green lights where possible to pending items in WhatIsIn04x01

  1. TWikiFns (previously called TWikiTags) - ML - ??? Is Meredith still driving this after BewareOfTheQuietLeavers?
  2. ExtensionInstaller in configure - CC
    • Evaluation version available in DEVELOP branch. DONE Accepted with wishlist (to be created)
  3. DakarPerformanceIssues - KennethLavrsen
We need steps to bring TWiki back towards at least Cairo performance.
    • The main contribution to address this is the profiling framework. See BenchmarkFramework
  4. PluginHandlerForContentMove - PTh
  5. AutoIncTopicNameOnSave - PTh
  6. TemplatePathIsCounterintuitive - Main.MartinCleaver
  7. PalettablePatternSkin - Main.MartinCleaver
  8. PreInstallSmartEditAddOn - PTh
  9. MainTWikiPreferencesOverridePluginSettings - PTh, TW

4 Reply to NuwikiRip

  • PatternSkin is released under GPL and there will not be any dual license.

5. Profiling framework for TWiki

  • Desired outcome: Try to define roadmap for easy to use profiling tool
  • HaraldJoerg has proposed a good start at BenchmarkFramework. Harald should ask for which parts of the work others can help on.

Action Items

  • All: Profilling - few wishlist inputs. More very welcome. Agree to let Harald push this further.
  • Kenneth: TWikiFn. Ask Meredith if she is committed to drive it further - and when. It takes a driver to continue this further. There is still full support for the idea.
    • Rafael: Take a stab at defining the scope of finishing the work of implementing TWikiFn including docs, t.o. code, testcases etc
  • Kenneth: Clarify the veto on TWikiRelease04x01Process as it has been discussed today.
  • All: Configure on DEVELOP: "as a general statement, there is no need to tell CDot anything else than - go ahead - and here is our additional wishlist." More of us will try to test further.
  • PreInstallSmartEditAddOn looks promissing but does not work on Safari. So needs more work. But could be TWiki distribution candidate.
    • Arthur: will try and look at code as time allows
    • Anyone: Can we get the developer access to a MacOS machine with Safari? (does he have access to one already - and is his sponser OK with spending time on this aspect?)
